Sweden doesn't have an extradition treaty with the US. If he was innocent of the rape charges, he would have been better off going there and sorting it out. Because he'd have had more protection there from the US, than he did choosing to violate his bail conditions in a country that *does* have an extradition treaty with the US and which would be obligated to carry it out if he stayed there long enough for the US to make that request.
