TLDR: it's probably not worth it. Usually it's much better to invest in the same jurisdiction where you're paying taxes. It's not even about double taxation, it's just that international taxation is complicated and expensive. I don't know anything about Croatia, but I am sure their tax returns don't expect US 1099 forms, their tax code doesn't break capital gains into long-term and short-term, etc. Hiring a local CPA that knows how to read US tax forms for the purposes of Croatian taxes will be hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Again, I don't know anything about Croatia, but my home country has cheap local Boglehead-style ETFs that track US equity indexes (including REITs, if you'd like to invest in real-estate). That way you are exposed to the US stock market, but paying local taxes is easy.
