Why can people not be afraid of that, though?

I’m not saying this is a legitimate example that is relevant… but if someone said, “it’s inevitable that someone’s going to come into your room and stab you to death tonight, so don’t be scared of it,” it seems logical that you’ll be afraid.

My only point is people are afraid because it is scary. The problem with people who are optimistic is they see the glass half full. Which is great, and I wish I did. The problem is people like myself, many many people, see the potential upside, as being completely outweighed by the horrible downsides. Between society and governments and terrorisrs and the rougue AI scenarios, it seems like things were much more likely go wrong.

As other people said, we can’t even “align” with ourselves as greater humanity across party lines within countries, let alone the world.

That is why we are afraid. It seems perfectly logical to me, and it makes us even more afraid when people tell us that we should not be afraid.
